A Life In Cars

The life story of Dickie Sutherland

The Favourite Car

Looking back if I had to pick one, I would say my most prized memory would have to be The Singer-Chevy.

This was the first car I bought. It was my first car.

The Singer as I first bought it - The Black Night.

What makes it so special?

It was the time when cars would be altered modified, modernised, and personalised.

There was a freedom to make the car yours.

Cars today have evolved into complex machines, regulated by rules and regulations, while the variety of models and optional extras meet most needs and wants. the emotion invested into this one car, the memories of this car.

The Singer, I started with a plan to make my car; but not a set plan, after many changes in direction, the Singer was on the road after what seems an uncharted course of repair, refurbishment, modification and purpose. Form a sports car to a surf chaser.

So significant were the changes in appearance that were made to this car (from when I bought it), that I can only wonder now, looking back at it…

“What was I thinking…?”

A work in progress - The Singer Chev.
The Surf Chaser in it's final form.
